Powertrain Specs of the BMW X5
Under the hood of the BMW X5 is a powertrain that satisfies your need for adrenaline-inducing driving. You’ll have your choice between two engines:
- 3.0L TwinPower Turbo I-6: 335 horsepower
- 4.4L TwinPower Turbo V8: 456 horsepower
To help you harness all that power, it pairs its engine with an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes. Available steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters let you change gears in manual mode on command without taking your hands off the wheel.
The xDrive all-wheel-drive system is available or standard, depending on your powertrain. This smart feature actively monitors your roadway conditions and automatically redistributes torque between all four wheels as necessary to help you keep a strong grip on the road.
Plus, Driving Dynamics Control gives you three different drive modes to choose from so that you can get the most out of your time behind the wheel. These modes are: ECO PRO, COMFORT, and SPORT.
Interior Dimensions and Technology Features
The interior of the BMW X5 is very spacious and technologically advanced. It includes two rows of seats that can accommodate up to five passengers in total. This includes the following dimensions:
- Headroom: 40.7 inches
- Legroom (front/rear): 39.8/37.4 inches
- Cargo Capacity: 72.3 cubic feet
As you can see, this SUV gives you a total cargo volume of 72.3 cubic feet when you fold the rear row down flat. If you need to bring along a full car of passengers, you can still carry 33.9 cubic feet of cargo in the trunk area behind the second row.
Meanwhile, the infotainment system helps to keep all passengers entertained during your drive. The available iDrive 7.0 system places a touchscreen display in the center stack. Here, you can view available integrated navigation and information from smartphone connected via Apple CarPlay™.
It also includes an available Harman Kardon® Surround Sound Audio System with a 464-watt amplifier. This audio system places 16 speakers around the cabin, including seven tweeters, six midrange speakers, and two bass speakers.
Smart Safety Features
As you cruise around town in your BMW X5, you’ll have several driver-assist features at your service to help you make your way with added confidence. This system includes the Active Driving Assistant suite and the following features:
- Daytime Pedestrian Protection
- Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation
- Lane Departure Warning
It also has Active Blind Spot Detection and rear Cross Traffic Alert. Active Blind Spot Detection helps you change lanes or merge more safely by alerting you to vehicles in your side blind spot. When you’re backing out of a parking space in a crowded lot, the rear Cross Traffic Alert feature will warn you of cars approaching your rear bumper from the side.
