We’ve assumed a fuel economy of 30 mpg for a comparable gasoline powered sedan. For example, the 2018 BMW 3 Series and $2.81 per gallon average for all grades of gasoline: 13,476 miles / 30 miles/gallon = 449 gallons/year. 449 gallons * $2.81/gallon = $1,262 for gasoline per year or $7,572 for gasoline in six years.
We’ve assumed a combined electricity consumption of 30 kwH per 100 miles for the BMW i3 and the 2018 U.S. average of $0.1289 per kwH for electricity: 13,476 miles / 100 * 30 kwH = 4,043 kwH/year. 4,043 kwH * $0.1289/kwH = $521 for electricity per year or $3,126 for electricity in six years.
