The first trees of Shelburne Farm were planted in the early 1900s, making it the oldest pick-your-own apple orchard in Eastern Massachusetts. Shelburne Farm previously teamed up with the University of Massachusetts to be part of the UMass Extension Fruit Program. With their help and expertise, Shelburne Farm was able to learn new planting and horticultural techniques.
This has helped grow both their harvest bounty and the variety of produce grown annually. With the help of the UMass program, Shelburne now grows more than 20 types of peaches and 80 types of apples!
