IIHS Names the 2017 BMW 5 Series a Top Safety Pick +
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) declared last month that the 2017 BMW 5 Series was named a “Top Safety Pick+”, recognizing the company’s long-standing dedication to delivering best-in-class safety.
The 2017 BMW 5 Series earned the safety rating because of its performance on these five crash tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints, plus an optional front crash prevention system that was rated as a “Superior” rating and headlights that received a “Good” rating.
The IIHS noted that the structure and body design of the seventh-generation 5 Series helped improve the vehicle’s performance in the small overlap front crash test, resulting in the driver’s space being at lower risk of significant injury thanks to minimal intrusion at the footrest. In addition, the 5 Series was awarded a “Superior” rating in front crash prevention when equipped with available Frontal Collision Warning with either City Collision Mitigation or with Extended Collision Mitigation.
With safety features that include Blind Spot Detection, Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Lane Departure Warning, Active Cruise Control with Stop Go, Evasion Aid, Cross Traffic Alert and more, this newest generation BMW 5 Series is the most innovative version to date.
